Art Gala Paints a Spotlight On CSU's Artists

Cleveland State University’s Campus Activities Board hosted an art gala for students on the first floor of the Student Center the evening of Nov. 6. A thin red carpet graced the floor, splitting the sea of art. An array of sketches, photographs, and abstract as well as objective paintings was on display, spread out on tables and art stands. Live music played for observers on the first floor who could then ascend to the third floor for pastries and drinks.

One sole artist, Jessie Long, a health science major in her final year, produced most of the art.

“I mostly do it for stress relief,” Long said. “I’m able to escape reality and focus on something else.”

Her art involved more abstract concepts, working with elements, such as fire and earth, and incorporating them into her pieces.

The event lasted three hours and gave students the opportunity to display their artwork regardless of their career paths.
